Construction sites hold dozens of potential electrical safety hazards; therefore it’s no surprise ongoing safety education and training is one of the important benefits the Washington, D.C. Chapter of National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) offers its member contractors.
The NECA Chapter, a sponsor of the Electrical Alliance along with Local 26, IBEW, recently hired Jerry Rivera as safety director.
Rivera replaces Vince Miller who recently retired after 16 years in the position. As safety director, Rivera will conduct continuing education trainings for employees of NECA contractors, author articles and blog posts and oversee messages as related to electrical safety for the association.
Rivera holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Bachelors in Business Administration and a Master of Engineering in Safety Engineering.
He was recently appointed by the Assistant Secretary of Labor to Dr. David Michaels to serve on the Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health for a second term.
Rivera’s committee experience includes membership on Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace (NFPA 70E), American Society of Safety Engineers Standards Development Committee and the Accredited Standards Committee on Construction Safety and Demolition operations.
Rivera brings a wealth of experience in electrical safety to the job. Overall, he has worked in the field for more than 15 years. He is the former director of safety at NECA National where he oversaw the development of its safety resources and served as a liaison between member contractors and regulatory agencies to improve safety practices. “We’re very pleased to have Jerry head up this area of our organization,” said Andrew Porter, executive director of Washington, DC Chapter of NECA. “The combination of his experience and forward thinking will continue to advance safety across the industry.”
