If your student is considering a career in the electrical industry,
here's what you should know:
The JATC electrical apprenticeship program is an accredited education program. It requires a student with strong math and sciences skills who is dedicated to advancing their career.
Once apprentices complete their training, they are licensed electricians. They can earn up to $73,000 per year plus benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans and generous vacation policies. In addition to working in the field, many go on to work in office positions as project estimators or project managers or even start their own businesses.
The application process is similar to applying for college. While SAT scores are not required, applicants must provide their high school transcripts showing a passing grade in Algebra I and take a qualifying exam.
The apprenticeship program does not cost anything. In addition, apprentices get paid while they attend class and on-site training.
Classes take place in the 31,000-square-foot, cutting-edge facility. Every classroom is wired for video on demand allowing instructors to call up hundreds of training videos as well as lesson plans and presentations. Almost all of the 14 classrooms have built in lab space, where students can practice on actual equipment and sharpen their skills. Finally, all of the equipment that actually powers the building has been placed where students can examine it. This helps familiarize them with what they will encounter on the job-site.
